This dark comedic documentary narrated by Hardy is a story of an unlikely person put in extraordinary circumstances. Hardy teamed up with producer/director Leila Sansour and other members of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) in an effort to try his hand at ending occupation of the West Bank. Hardy could only describe the next four days of filming as “four days in hell.”

The footage  captured covers everything from the standoff at Yasser Arafat’s compound to the siege at the Church of the Nativity. It gives an inside look into the operations and birth of the ISM and the stories that were never reported in last year’s news bulletins.

Few films about the Middle East view history through the lens of the Palestinians, even though they are the people whose history and daily reality lie at the heart of events in the region. Tragedy In the Holy Land: The Second Uprising fills a void in conventional accounts of the Israeli/Palestinian struggle. It gives the viewer access to the voices and background of one of the most misunderstood and misinterpreted conflicts of the last century, covering the origins of the dispute and offering a rare look at the confrontation from a Palestinian point of view, including remarks and insight from Palestinians, Jews and other noted scholars.

This provocative documentary addresses the core issues of land and identity. It probes the evolution of the seemingly incurable conflict in Palestine from a historical perspective that is typically unknown to American audiences.

Using rarely seen archival footage and interviews with various experts and scholars, Tragedy In the Holy Land offers vital information about the roots of the current conflict and the ongoing struggle for survival and dignity.

The demolished house that is the site of the death of American peace activist Rachel Corrie is only the first of the troubling markers in the landscape charted by Palestine Blues as the director travels the route of the infamous security wall. A bereft farmer grieves for his ancient orchard as the bulldozers lay it to waste, but a new movement in nonviolent resistance grows in its place.
